It looks like a wasps' nest in terms of its papery consistency, but is only the size of an average hen's egg.

I think we found one of these at my mum's - yes think it's the start of a wasps nest too. Very attractive swirls, can it inspire any art or jewellery?! xx
Thankyou both, I was hoping for something unusual, but yes great patterning on the 'shell'.
Maybe they started and then changed their mind - I'm house hunting at the moment so I know the feeling.... Kathy
